Burn, Burn, Burn

This session aims to build participant knowledge of chemistry through studying the fire triangle and how it influences our world and its many different materials.

Burn, Burn, Burn involves:

  • Examining the properties of a variety of different materials
  • Making observations of how each material burns (reactions, smells, burning rates)
  • Discovering where the material goes once it’s been burnt
  • Learning the differences between heating and burning
  • Finding out how to conduct a chemical experiment in a safe manner
  • Learning about the kind of careers you can get in Chemistry

Cross-cutting themes and Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLE) groups embedded in the session:

  • Maths and numeracy – measurement, calculation
  • Teamworking
  • Problem-solving
  • Critical-thinking
  • IT skills
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Literacy
