Beaches, Bays and Barnacles

Did you know beaches are bursting with biodiversity?

Beaches, Bays and Barnacles involves exploring beach habitats, rockpools and sand dunes to discover the abundant range of creatures inhabiting local beaches. From seaweed, shells, sea snails, and sand-snails, to crabs, molluscs, anemones and making underwater viewers for closer inspection.

Build knowledge and understanding of beaches, tides, marine life, the marine environment and environmental issues, such as pollution and plastics, to encourage children to dispose of litter responsibly and increase environmental awareness.

Beaches, Bays and Barnacles involves:

  • Habitat exploration
  • Species identification
  • Beach art
  • Games
  • Food chains
  • Rock-pooling
